Costs of War

Upon researching topics to post to the blog, I came across a website that was profoundly insightful. The website, http://costsofwar.org/, which is run by Brown University, goes into the mental, emotional, physical, social, and economic effects of war not only on the obvious-soldiers, martyrs, activists-but broaches the idea that the effects of war are omnipresent. 

Especially frightening to people like us, teenagers who often use technology almost 24/7, are the effects war has on the constant surveillance and gathering of data. FISA, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, allows the government to put wire-taps on individuals and search through their personal electronic property. 

"The specially created FISA court has issued more orders for electronic surveillance in the ten years since 9/11 than in the entire previous 22 years (more than 15,661 FISA orders approved since 2001 versus 13,102 between 1978 and 2000)." 

It could be said that the United States is blurring the lines of what accounts for the disposal of our constitutional rights.
