To understand the Trojan War we must understand the main catalyst. Paris of Troy was seen in a dream by his mother Queen Hecuba that he would cause much trouble for Troy so he was left out to die. Paris was saved by a bear who nursed him until he was found by a shepherd. The "Judgment of Paris" is when Zeus chose Paris the shepherd boy to choose who was the most beautiful goddess. Each one offered him something to choose them. He chose Aphrodite the goddess of love who promised him the most beautiful women, Helen. This angered Athena and she can hold a grudge. Paris later returned to Troy and was revealed to be the son of the king and was welcomed home to Troy. Years later Paris remembered Aphrodite's gift and went to go retrieve Helen. Helen was betrothed to the King of Sparta. So now Menelaus king of Sparta, Achilles and many other kings and heroes of the greek world were called upon to defeat Troy for stealing Helen with the aid of the angered goddess Athena.
