Free College

During the State of the Union address on Tuesday, President Obama proposed a plan to offer two years of free community college to U.S. students. Which would allow all those wanting to further their education that option no longer tied down by their financial situation. Allowing parents the ability to get that new job which required a degree after the recession took their previous one away. Allowing people’s futures to not be dictated by how much money are in their pockets. However many seem opposed to this plan which would require six billion dollars to keep afloat each year but how could one deny millions of students seeking brighter futures at these community colleges.

One of President Obama’s many critics can be found seated on the couch of Fox News during their segment "Fox & Friends" with its co-host Steve Doocy who did not even speak on the potentially high costs to states and unlikelihood of it increasing the graduation rate but instead "Here's the thing that really bothers me about this," Doocy said Wednesday morning. "I made my final two college tuition payments about two weeks ago!” Doocy a fifty eight year old alumni of the University of Kanas choose to attend that college not a community one all these students want is an opportunity, they don’t want the best of the best they just want something but they don’t have that choice because they don’t have the thousands of dollars it takes to attend. Doocys co-host Brian Kilmeade backed him stating "If you want to go to college, you can get a part-time job and make that tuition payment even without a loan, which available to you, and even without grants,” But can someone with a one point five million dollar net worth really have such an realistic perspective on the subject?
