In 2010 india's population was 1.17 billion. Most of those people live below the poverty line. The causes for the large amount of poor in India is that many people go uneducated. Also in India there is a shortage of resources and poor healthcare. This leads to many people moving into slums made of anything people can put together as a shelter. Many children like Jamal can be orphaned at a young age. They can lose their families to diseases that are treatable here in the USA.

Poverty in India
So far in the movie Slumdog Millionaire we have seen the condition of the poor in India. Jamal and his brother after being orphaned lived in a giant junkyard where they searched for scraps. This is an accurate portrayal of the Indian slums. In fact the movie was filmed in the slums of India.

Good though sad research Gerlando. It's hard to imagine what can be done when we're talking about SO MANY people, but clearly something must be attempted.
