Ebola outbreak: 5 things you should know

This first mistake people make is they panic.Its a natural reaction but not one that will make our situation any better. The CDC says every hospital in America has a plan in place to stop the disease in its tracks. 

1. The chances of Ebola spreading in the United States is slim to none, you'd have a better chance at getting hit by lightening said a doctor from Stony Brook Hospital. Areas where the outbreak occurred are "some of the poorest places on planet Earth," said Thomas Geisbert, professor of microbiology and immunology.

2. We do not have a vaccine but we have been treating the patients with several experimental drugs. Some supplies of these have been exhausted and some have are running low. Some victims of Ebola have received blood transfusions from those who survived Ebola. They hope the survivors antibodies will help the sick person's immune system fight off the virus.

3. Many who have been on flights with Ebola victims wonder if they should seek medical attention. The CDC does not recommend that people on the same commercial airline flights undergo monitoring.Ebola is contagious only if the person is experiencing active symptoms. If anyone is concerned they may call 800-CDC-INFO.

4. Our US hospital are well prepared. Our technology is greater than the countries it is in now and if someone comes here with it we are ready to treat them. Medical professionals and flight crews have been trained how to react in this emergency.

5. To stop any potential outbreak of Ebola, the CDC says it can stem any potential spread thorough isolation of ill people, contacting people exposed to the ill person and further isolation of contacts if they develop symptoms, the agency said.  

I know we are prepared to fight Ebola if it comes to our country so we should remain calm. With insight into the medical field, I know people are being well prepared and trained on what ways they can handle coming in contact and treating the victims. My father is a paramedic in Brooklyn and has to undergo training for this epidemic.
