Trench Warfare

Trench warfare was most commonly used during WW1. The competing sides would form large trenches in the group as their fighting line and it was meant to protect the soldiers from small arms fire. The area between the two opposing trenches was referred to as the "no man's land". Though this may seem like a good idea, trench warfare was often ineffective due to new technology used during the war. When poison gas was invented, it was fired over to the opposing side's trench, engulfing those soldiers in the trench with the gas and either killing them or blinding them. Trench warfare is a tactic that is useful for defensive purposes but not so useful with offense.
