Wilfred Owen was born in Shropshire, England. He was well educated as a child and around the age of 17 became very interested in poetry. He failed to gain entrance to the University of London so he became the lay assistant to Reverend Herbert Wigan teaching in France at the Berlitz school of english. By 1915 Owen became more and more interested in WWI. So after receiving training in England, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. In 1917 he was wounded and moved from the battle zone. This is where he met other literary artists such as Robert Graves and H. G. Wells. At this time he wrote most of his famous works such as the one we read in class "Dulce Et Decorum Est". Soon Owen returned to the front. He died leading his men at age 25. Many of his poems were collected and published.
