School Bombing in Syria

October 1, 2014 in the city of Homs a bombing occurred killing 17 including 10 elemantary school age children.  The city of Homs  is a government controlled area.  This is claimed to be one of the deadliest attacks on government controlled area in months.  The explosion also injured 56 people.  The death toll is said to rise based on the severity of these injuries.  The first explosion came from a car parked in front of the school.  The second was a suicide bomber who drove by in a car stocked with explosives and detonated around the same area of the school.  The explosion occurred after when the children were exiting the building at the end of class.  There was no immediate claim to who made this attack but many believe it to be Syrian Rebels.

It concerns me that rebel groups are starting to target children.  I believe it is unsafe to keep any schools open due to the fact Syrian Rebels are targeting the innocent.  What I don't understand is why children are being targeted for these gruesome attacks.  What dose it accomplish? More bloodshed?
