Throughout the movie, we start to notice a change in the characters. Lance, Willard, and many others slowly morph into a barbaric, animal-like behavior due to being in the war. The director did an excellent job with showing the development of the characters' becoming more and more savage through the use of face paint, jewelry made from bone and their actions. I believe that the picture above is a spot on example of what this war did to those involved and captures Willard's animal side, looking almost inhumane.
