The US and China Actually Agree on Something?!

 

President Barack Obama has been meeting with Asian countries in this year's APEC meeting. These "Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation" meetings are held annually between multiple Asian leaders and leaders of other economic powers such as the US. They meet to have diplomatic discussions, hoping to make progress on some of the world's most pressing issues.

After the closing of this year's APEC meeting, Obama and China's president, Xi Jinping have made a groundbreaking agreement: reduce their nations' greenhouse gas emissions. Both China and the United States have agreed to lower carbon dioxide emissions by at least 26% by the year 2025 for the US and 2030 for China. An agreement between the US and China is rare making this a landmark decision, possibly a sign of friendlier relations with the long time rival nations.  

For the first time it seems climate change is having a direct economic effect on countries and they have finally decided to act to curb the growing problem in which they feel is going to have a negatively affect the economy in the future.
