Apocalypse Now
Marlon Brando who played Williard in Apocalypse
Now had an ongoing drug and alcohol problem throughout the filming of the
movie. The director Francis Ford Coppola described working with
him as "like a kid, very irresponsible,". Marlon was actually intoxicated in the bedroom scene in the beginning
of the movie.
The bedroom scene helps the audience see the raw
character of Willard. What I got from that scene was that Williard needed
to be back in the army. Willard doesn't know what is normal
anymore because he has been in war for most of his life and when he
is home he's just waiting to go back. I believe willard had a
life before he joined the army but since then he no longer has the ability
to continue it. All he can do now is wait for another mission.
