Van Gogh's Peasant Shoes

This is a still life painting, that Van Gogh painted during the period he was in Paris. This is one of the many shoes or boots that he has painted, but this painting is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He painted this shoes in Arles, and because of the specific context of the back round, specifically the red tiles people believe they can identify the owner and the setting of the shoes. People say these shoes are the "still life of
old peasants shoes," and may be the shoes of Patience Escalier, whose portrait Van Gogh executed around the same time of the summer of 1888.

These shoes specifically stood out to me when we visited the MET because it was a different style then the other Van Gogh paintings. I liked how this painting is something that you see everyday, but has Van Gogh's unique style added to it. This piece expresses the truth of the way things are in everyday life. Some people say that he uses his art to make people ask questions about the meaning of his paintings. He wants people to create their own theories of the piece and correspond it their lives.
